Researchers observed that chiropractic spinal manipulative therapy and benzodiazepine drugs were frequently prescribed. They asked how spinal manipulation influenced the use of the benzodiazepine drugs in patients aged 18-49 years of age. The researchers also questioned whether a patient’s preference to avoid prescription medications influenced this. Their sensitivity analysis didn’t have anything to do with the risk. The study concluded that chiropractic spinal manipulation care significantly decreased the odds of a prescription for and influenced the use of benzodiazepine for radicular low back pain. The patients in the study who began with the chiropractic manipulation path were more prone to receive published guideline-directed care for benzodiazepine prescription.
