Toronto Chiropractic Exercise Plans for Post-Surgery Care

March 21, 2017

10,080 minutes are in a week.  What do you do with all those minutes? Sleep, eat, talk, work, listen, shop, drive…exercise? Exercise doesn’t usually appear in at number one on most people’s lists of favorite things to do with their time.  Researchers recommend that we all exercise at least 150 minutes a week. (6) That’s just

  • 2 and a half hours a week.
  • 5 sessions of 30 minutes a week.
  • 10 sessions of 15 minutes a week.

That doesn’t seem like much, but we need to schedule it into our busy lives, do we not? Even your Toronto chiropractor needs to do that! Time goes by so fast for all of us, including time for your Toronto chiropractic physician at Yorkville Chiropractic and Wellness Centre. Your Toronto chiropractic physician at Yorkville Chiropractic and Wellness Centre encourages Toronto chiropractic patients to continue doing their exercise routines even when they are feeling better and their back pain is better.

Benefits of Exercise

People sleep better, are happier and less depressed when they exercise. (1,2) Toronto chiropractic patients benefit like this, too! Hearts and minds are healthier when their owners exercise. (3,4) Just take a walk down your Toronto street, and see how much clearer you think and better you feel as your heart pumps more. Exercise reduce memory loss. (4) Exercise decreases depressive symptoms. (2) Blood pressure drops. (5) Life span may even increase due to heart workouts with aerobic exercise. (3)  What do you think of all these possibilities? Yorkville Chiropractic and Wellness Centre encourages you to see the positives!

Exercise is life-giving. Exercise is life-supporting. Exercise is all that for normal spine folks but even more crucial for Toronto back pain sufferers especially for Toronto post-back surgery patients who still experience back pain. Post-surgical patients who exercise 150 minutes a week show a significant decrease in pain and reoperation rate states a new study of post-surgery back pain patients. In this study the mean age was 57 years of age. 80% of them had degenerative diagnoses. 63% had gone through a multilevel back surgery. Only 35% of them met the greater than 1400 kcal per week exercise expenditure and left them vulnerable to a second surgery (called a revision surgery). Only 26% of post back surgery patients met the more than 150 minutes a week of exercise leaving them open to degenerative diagnoses, subsequent spine surgery, and more postoperative back pain. (6) 150 minutes a week doesn’t sound like much anymore, does it? Yorkville Chiropractic and Wellness Centre knows our Toronto chiropractic patients can find 2.5 hours a week for their back’s sake. It's part of the whole Toronto treatment plan of chiropractic care
