No Exercise Often Increases Risk of More Toronto Pain & Disease Progression

September 24, 2019

Do something. Walk. Stretch. Move. Pain sufferers benefit when they do something. A lack of exercise is a risk for worsening pain, both pain in the body and pain in the mind in the form of depression. Yorkville Chiropractic and Wellness Centre sees many Toronto back pain patients in pain who also deal with depression. Yorkville Chiropractic and Wellness Centre also knows that when our Toronto chiropractic patients do something, they improve in body and mind.

NO EXERCISE RAISES RISK OF STENOSIS PROGRESSION

Spinal stenosis is a familiar diagnosis. It is the decrease of the spinal canal area because of degeneration. A new study revealed that risk of spinal stenosis progression is greater for those who had spondylolisthesis, experienced pain (in leg and/or back) when walking, and more severe stenosis. The absence of therapeutic exercise was also discovered to a risk factor for the progression of spinal stenosis. (1) Back pain sufferers like those with spinal stenosis and spondylolisthesis benefit from exercise! Yorkville Chiropractic and Wellness Centre helps each of our chiropractic patients find what exercise is right for them.

EXERCISE ENHANCES FUNCTION

Nonspecific low back pain sufferers enhanced their functional disability level better with stabilization and/or McKenzie exercises than with conventional exercise programs. (2) Notice though that exercise did help, whether or not it was conventional!

EXERCISE IMPROVES DEPRESSION

For many back pain sufferers with specific or non-specific back pain, chronic or not, may well describe themselves as a little blue when their back pain sticks around longer than desired. It is not uncommon. Again, exercise helps! Another study showed that exercise (low dose or moderate-dose strength and conditioning) helped decrease depressive symptoms in adults with chronic low back pain. Combining exercise and manual therapy was a bonus! (3) Yorkville Chiropractic and Wellness Centre brings in as many positive approaches to back pain relief as possible to help our Toronto back pain patients! The Cox® Technic System of Spine Pain Management is one of those approaches.
