Toronto CHIROPRACTIC TIP OF THE MONTH: Strengthen the Quadratus Lumborum
The quadratus lumborum – a quadrilateral-shaped muscle - is
a paired muscle on the left and right side of the abdominal
wall. It is a deep muscle and usually thought
of as a back muscle as it stretches from the upper 4 lumbar vertebrae to the 12th rib. When
contracted, the quadratus lumborum triggers lateral flexion
of the lumbar spine and/or elevation of the pelvis. (5) Various bridge-type exercises are being examined about
the way in which they strengthen the quadratus lumborum’s 2
layers of muscle in order for it to best add to the motor
control of the lumbar pain and prevent back pain. (6) Yorkville Chiropractic and Wellness Centre
and you can discuss how your spine may benefit from such
exercise at your next Toronto chiropractic visit to Yorkville Chiropractic and Wellness Centre.
