Frankincense and myrrh, two esteemed
gifts obtained from the gum resins of trees - the Boswellia
and the Commiphora, respectively – make marvelous
partners in healing! Both have been incorporated
throughout history in perfume, incense, aromatherapy, and medicine, particularly
Chinese medicine. Their anti-inflammatory, anti-tumor, antioxidant, and more assets
tackle issues with a variety of health
conditions, many that Yorkville Chiropractic and Wellness Centre knows bother our
Toronto chiropractic patients and/or loved ones who may want to
understand better!
THE COMBINATION: Frankincense and Myrrh
Chinese medicine values frankincense
and myrrh for their extensively positive
health effects. Used together, their anti-inflammatory and
analgesic effects and significantly for anti-tumor effects stopped
growth of U266 multiple myeloma cells. (1) In Chinese medicine, frankincense-myrrh
are parts of an anti-tumor drug for various
cancers with the latest research showing
its effect on hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). How? By controlling
pathological processes like cytokine-receptor binding and pathways and affecting
the blood vessels that feed tumors in HCC. Tumor
volume was reduced, and pathological structure was lessened
with frankincense and myrrh treatment. (2) Low dose frankincense/myrrh modulated
urotheilial wound healing to help symptoms of acute interstitial
cystitis/painful bladder syndrome. (3) The
frankincense/myrrh comination is a
winning/healing one!
NEUROPATHIC PAIN
Yorkville Chiropractic and Wellness Centre welcomes combinations of
treatments to help our Toronto chiropractic patients looking for
healing. Chinese medicine treats diabetic neuropathy, a critical
problem of diabetes and trigger of kidney disease,
by regulating pathways having to do with the
glucose/lipid metabolism regulation, antioxidation,
anti-inflammation, anti-fibrosis, etc. (4) Chinese medicine treatment of neuropathic
pain commonly involves the frankincense-myrrh combination as it is described
as having the ability to activate blood and disperse
blood stasis. The combination
was tested and found to lessen neuropathic
pain likely related to neuro-inflammatory agents TLR4 and MyD88 and to preventing TRPV1 and inflammatory factor expression. (5). Yorkville Chiropractic and Wellness Centre
knows all this detail may not be “up your alley” of wanting
to know, but we want to share
the whole story if only to get to the point
that frankincense-myrrh eases neuropathic pain, a great result!
